The Decennial Census, taken every 10 years, is a major data collection effort involving over 150,000 ”enumerators” (field agents) and associated support staff at the national headquarters in Suitland, MD. After an issue with the original contractor’s services, AttivaSoft, a long time partner of the US Census Bureau in it’s ITSM branch, was brought in at the eleventh hour to quickly stand up a Service Desk solution to support the field operations, twelve regional census centers, and those 150,000 enumerators for the 2010 Census.
Utilizing a modified Agile development lifecycle, AttivaSoft quickly staffed a team of experienced Senior ITSM Architects and Developers to stand up a highly customized version of the BMC Remedy ITSM Solution.
The solution was architected and built on a highly available load balanced Linux environment utilizing an Oracle DB backend and incorporated Incident Management, Problem Management and Knowledge Management processes.
The system was stood up and developed in the short time allotted, maintained a greater than 99% uptime over it’s lifetime, and was widely recognized as the most useful and stable system utilized in the 2010 Decennial Census.
